Loja (Agenzia Fides) - The plight of a considerable group of victims of trafficking regarding both countries, on the border between Ecuador and Peru, will be the main theme of the XI Meeting of the Binational Pastoral for Human Mobility which, with the slogan "Inclusive, supportive and welcoming border" will be held in the city of Loja, Ecuador, from 30 September to 2 October.
The note sent to Fides by CELAM highlights that the meeting will serve to exchange work experiences, actions and prevention activities, in addition to procedures for the employment of victims saved from the hands of organized gangs, who used them for sexual and labor exploitation.
The delegations of the two Latin American countries participate not only with Church delegations (Caritas and Bishops' Conference), but also with representatives from the Ministry of Interior and Migration (on behalf of Peru) and the Interior Ministry and the Foreign Ministry (on behalf of Ecuador).
A few days ago the Bishops of Peru issued a document denouncing human trafficking, where it is reported that from January to April 2015, there were 330 cases of human trafficking, reported officially, involving a total of 4,000 victims, but the number could be much higher considering the number of unreported cases.
