ASIA/TAIWAN - Disciples of the Lord founded by Cardinal Celso Costantini welcome new members

Taipei (Fides Service) - Recently the Congregation of the Disciples of the Lord, China’s first community of men religious welcomed new brothers. The congregation was founded by Cardinal Celso Costantini (1876-1958) first Apostolic Delegate in China and former secretary general of the Congregattion for the Evangelisation of Peoples. According to the Taipei weekly diocesan bulletin Christian Life Weekly, one religious made his perpetual vows and 6 confreres confirmed their temporary vows. The celebration was presided by Fr. Stephen Huang, Superior general, in the presence of families and friends from China and abroad and many local Catholics. The new brother Yu, thanked God for the gift of his vocation, his parents who had come from Malaysia for the occasion, and the priests and confreres of the community present for the celebration.
The Congregation of the Disciples of the Lord was the first Chinese congregation to be approved by Propaganda Fide 4 January 1927. Today it has members in Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan active in evangelisation in schools and parishes and through print media. (Agenzia Fides 16/09/2005 Righe: 14 Parole: 189)
