Tuesday, 30 August 2005

Kinshasa (Fides Service)- A Catholic nun in Congo combines her religious vocation with a passion for information technology. Sr Odette Sangupamba, a member of the congregation of the Sisters of Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus in Kinshasa, Democratic Congo, has just completed a course 2002 - 2005 in Information Technology offered by the Finance Ministry school of computer science.
According to DIA, a local Catholic news agency, Sr Odette enrolled for the course after making her perpetual vows. Noting her passion for the subject, the Congregation advised her to take a course in computer science. Sr Odette, one of eight children, joined the congregation in 1987 after studies in economy in Kinshasa where she was born. In 1990 she made her first religious vows. From 1996 to 1998 she was employed in the bursar’s office of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Congo.
Now Sr Odette hopes to open a hardware/software repair-shop for the congregation but open to the general public. She wants to help the archdiocese of Kinshasa to update and computerise its management system. It was Sr Odette who helped DIA news agency computerise its system of subscription management. (L.M.)
