Friday, 29 July 2005

Trujillo (Fides Service) - With only hours to go to the opening of the 2nd National Holy Childhood Congress organisers are completing last minute preparations for this major church event to be held 1 to 4 August at the Claretian Education Centre in Trujillo. Special attention is given to the safety of about 2000 young congress participants and their leaders and bishops to guarantee a happy event. In response to an Operation Friend initiative launched by the archdioese of Trujillo, the Holy Childhood children will stay with 800 local families.
The Congress is organised by the Pontifical Mission Societies in Peru in close collaboration with the local Church. Over 2000 Holy Childhood children from all over the country are expected to attend accompanied by their leaders, as well as religious men and women and a number of Bishops. The congress has the following objectives: reflect on how children in Peru live and grow cultivating Christian and missionary values; identify strategies to consolidate missionary pastoral among children in parishes and schools and promote experience of exchange among dioceses in Peru which already have a diocesan office for Holy Childhood.
National director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Peru Fr. Gianfranco Jacopi told the national media the Congress intends to form children to be evangelisers and missionaries and encourage them to share what they have with less fortunate children in the world: : “Children are a force for mission. Little sacrifices made by children amount to large contributions”. (RZ) (Agenzia Fides) (Agenzia Fides 29/7/2005 - Righe 18, Parole 239)
