AMERICA/CANADA - The Pope appoints new Coadjutor Archbishop of Keewatin-Le Pas

Vatican City (Fides Service) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on 11 July 2005 appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Keewatin-Le Pas (Canada) Rev. P. Sylvain Lavoie, O.M.I., until now parish priest and Provincial. Consultor.
The new Coadjutor Archbishop was born on 22 April 1947 at Delmas, Saskatchewan. He studied in Canada. He made his perpetual vows as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immacolate on 17 February 1974 and was ordained a priest on October 19 of the same year. He has since been: parish priest, Provincial Superior and Consultor.
Keewatin-Le Pas archdiocese created in 1967, has an area of 430,000sq km, a population of 110,689, including 42,739 Catholics gathered in 49 parishes, assisted by 17 priests (5 diocesan and 12 religious) and 11 women religious. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 11/7/2005; Righe 10; Parole 122)
