EUROPE/ITALY - PRIESTS AND CATECHESIS: MEETING FOR EUOPE’S BISHOPS AND CATECHESIS DELEGATES

Rome (Fides Service) – About eighty participants are expected for a Meeting of European Bishops and National Catechesis Delegates on the theme “ Priests and Catechesis in Europe”. The meeting, promoted by the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences CCEE in collaboration with the Italian National Catechesis Office of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, will be held in Rome at Villa Aurelia 5-8 May. Archbishop Cesare Nosiglia, vice regent of Rome diocese and CCEE delegate for catechesis will open the meeting. This will be followed by a report on a survey carried out by national delegates in St Maurice (Switzerland) on “the presence of the priests in catechesis: situation in the different countries” with papers on the situation in Spain, Hungary, Holland and Italy. The morning of May 6 will open with a Concelebration of the Eucharist presided by Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos, Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, followed by an intervention by Bishop Michel Dubost of Evry and Prof. Karl Heinz Schmitt, president of the Association of German Catechists.
In the afternoon Archbishop Josip Bozanic of Zagabria, vice president of the CCEE will speak on the “Ongoing Catechetical Formation For Priests ”. Among the speakers on May 7, Mons. Lucio Soravito of the diocese of Udine in Italy on “Priest animators of a Catechetical Community. Prospects?” Delegates of France, Slovakia and Great Britain will present a summary of the meeting’s work in the morning of 8 May before the conclusion by Archbishop Cesare Nosiglia.
The meeting will also be attended by Bishop Amedee Grab and Mons. Aldo Giordano, respectively president and secretary general of the CCEE. SL (Fides Service 2/5/2003 EM lines 21 Words: 253)
