AMERICA/PERU - The people of Peru thank Pope John Paul II who restored hope to the country at critical times: young people organise special Sunday Mass for the Pope

Lima (Fides Service) - The people of Peru, who recall with gratitude the Pope’s two visits to their country in 1985 and 1988, at critical times for the country when he restored hope in a country in the grip of violence and poverty, now gather to pray for the repose of the soul of John Paul II. A special Mass was attended by all the Bishops of Peru, members of the government and the president Alejandro Toledo. On Sunday 10 April, there will be a Mass in Lima cathedral organised by young Peruvians to express their gratitude to the Pope. In the invitation to come to the Mass the young people say: “One of the things the Pope taught young people is gratitude.
