AMERICA/PERU - Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Maldonado holds 6th Assembly in Lima on the theme “Lay Catholics helping to build a better world”

Lima (Fides Service) - “Lay Catholics helping to build a better world” is the theme of the 6th assembly of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Maldonado which started on 14 February at the Santa Rosa House of Spirituality in Lima. The assembly intends to promote effective and affective communion among the laity ever more active and apostolic.
The assembly, presided by Bishop Juan José Larrañeta O.P, Vicar Apostolic di of Puerto Maldonado and also secretary general of the Peruvian Bishops’ Conference and attended by about 100 people including priests, men and women religious and laity, will discuss the following themes: The Profile of the Laity in the Local Church; the Spirituality of the Lay Catholic; the Church home and school of Communion; Family; sanctuary of life; political involvement.
The Vicariate Apostolic of Puerto Maldonado, entrusted to the Dominicans, and situated in the area of the Peruvian forest is a mission territory. The people belong to various ethnic groups: Machiguengas, Piros, Amahuacas, Yaminahuas, Campas, Ashánincas, Culinas, Sharas, Mastanahuas, Cashinahuas, Yuses, Sharanahuas, Amarakaeris, Huachipairis, Huarayos, Santarrosinos, Toyeris, Iñaparis, Arasairis, Shireneris, Chamas.
