Monday, 17 January 2005

N’Djamena (Fides Service)- “Young people in society and in the Church” is the main topic on which some 40 Catholics Bishops of central African countries will reflect at the 7th plenary meeting of the Association of Bishops Conferences of Central African Region ACERAC which opened in N’Djamena capital of Chad on 16 January and will close 23 January.
In the opening address Archbishop Joseph Chenu papal nuncio to Chad and the Central African Republic said “the future of youth is the future of humanity and therefore we call on governments and the Church to build the future of today’s youth transmitting moral and spiritual values to them”.
Archbishop Mathias Ngarteri of N’Djamena told the assembly “this is an opportunity examine our own activity and to discuss the present alarming situation of our young people which represents a serious problem affecting nations, governments, civil society and the Church in the region of central Africa”.
Representing the President of Chad Idriss Deby, the minister for agriculture Pascal Yoadjim Nadji said it was necessary to intensify the existing “fruitful collaboration” between the Church and governments in central Africa and he called on the Church to “help political authorities provide assistance for many young people dragged into the many different conflicts in central Africa”.
