Monday, 7 September 2015

Panama City (Agenzia Fides) - "Imprisonment is not the same as exclusion, there are many elements that are against inmates: overcrowding, the slow pace of justice, the lack of an employment strategy, violence ... Brother and sister inmates, our actions have consequences, and this must be the great lesson to be learned in this place", said the Archbishop of Panama, His Exc. Mgr. José Domingo Ulloa, during the Mass celebrated at the Tinajitas detention center, Yesterday, Sunday, September 6.
Mgr. Ulloa stressed that all prisoners must be part of a process of reintegration into society. According to the note sent to Fides, Mgr. Ulloa also called on the inmates of this prison to repent, and to open their hearts to God: "We sin when we worship the idol of pride, vanity, then we have to apologize sincerely towards those who we have done wrong". "A detainee is not just the person who is behind bars", he said again, remembering that "there are those who live inside the prison of pride".
The Church, with Prison Pastoral Care and the presence of religious in prisons, carries out a work of reintegration of many detainees into society. In prison centers there are also many volunteers committed to the education and health care of prisoners. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 07/09/2015)
