AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Meeting of the Bishops of Colombia and Venezuela on the border area crisis

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - The meeting of the Permanent Council of Colombian Bishops, presided by Archbishop of Tunja, Mgr. Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga, with the President of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, His Exc. Mgr. Diego Rafael Padrón Sanchez, Archbishop of Cumana will be held today, September 3, at the headquarters of the Colombian Episcopal Conference, in Bogota,
Venezuela will be represented by the Archbishop of Coro, Mgr. Roberto Luckert Leon, President of the "Justice and Peace" Episcopal Commission, and the Bishop of San Cristobal, Mgr. Mario Del Valle Moronta, Colombia will be represented by the Bishops of the ecclesiastical jurisdictions that are in the border area.
According to information from the Episcopal Conference of Colombia, sent to Agenzia Fides, the Bishops will analyze the humanitarian crisis that has arisen in the border area between Colombia and Venezuela, following the closure of borders and the expulsion of a thousand Colombians (see Fides 01/09/2015) decreed by the Venezuelan President.
