Saturday, 29 August 2015

Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - After an intelligence operation, the Pakistani police arrested five terrorists, suspected of having played an active role in organizing the attacks on two churches on March 15 in the district of Youhanabad, in Lahore. According to local sources, the detainees provided direct assistance to suicide bombers. The officers also recovered weapons and a detonator. The suspects were handed over to the police in Lahore for further interrogation. Another man accused of taking part in the massacre was arrested last April.
Sources of the Christian community in Lahore told Fides that "it is the duty of the government to track down and arrest the culprits so that the massacre will not remain unpunished".
15 people died in front of the two churches and over 80 were injured. The attacks were claimed by "Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan", the so-called "Pakistani Taliban". (PA) (Agenzia Fides 29/08/2015)
