Damascus (Agenzia Fides) - A documentary prepared by the Syrian state television on "Sayfo", the so-called "Assyrian Genocide", was projected and attended by Syrian Orthodox Patriarch Mar Ignatius Aphrem II. The reportage on the massacres suffered a hundred years ago by the Assyrian, Chaldean and Syriac communities in the Ottoman Empire at the instigation of the Young Turks, also contains the testimonies of survivors of the massacres. The screening, held at the Opera Theatre of Damascus, ended with a performance by the patriarchal Choir of St. Aphrem. Patriarch Mar Aphrem, thanked the Ministry of Social Affairs - sponsor of the event - and related persecutions carried out a hundred years ago to the tribulations experienced by the Christian communities in the Middle East today, ravaged by sectarian conflicts fueled also by geopolitical interests.
