Thursday, 20 August 2015

Bangkok (Agenzia Fides) - Religious leaders of Thailand will meet tomorrow, 21 August for an interfaith prayer, in the Hindu temple of Erawan, site of the attack which took place on August 17 and shocked the nation, causing the death of 22 people and over 126 wounded. As Agenzia Fides learns, Buddhists, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and Christians (the five recognized religions in the country) will be present. Representatives of the Catholic Church will be present: the Bishops' Conference will send a delegate to express "solidarity and closeness to the Thai people and invoke unity and peace during this difficult moment" says the Secretariat of the Conference. Civil authorities will also attend, as representatives of the city of Bangkok and the government.
The Catholic Bishops have prepared a brief message to the nation that will be shared on that occasion. The text expresses condolences to the victims and condemns all forms of violence. The Bishops also urged the Thai population not to divide and restore unity in order to face the future in a climate of peace and reconciliation. The Catholic Church assures fervent prayer for the families of the victims and its full support for the entire nation. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 20/08/2015)
