AMERICA/CUBA - Pope Francis in Cuba special government webpage and Divine Mercy logo

Thursday, 13 August 2015

Havana (Agenzia Fides) – A new web site opened by the Cuban government on occasion of Pope Francis’ visit to the island next month presents a graphic logo focussed on a message of brotherhood and love, the fruit of Divine Mercy.
A red heart, a yellow hand holding a blue cross, the symbols chosen for the country’s Papal Visit, together with a photograph of the Pope, give a clear message about the event.
"This visual identity is drawn from the religious image of Jesus Divine Mercy, part of the liturgical programme and the message that Pope Francis brings to Cuba", reads the introduction to the new web site opened by the Cuban government in view of the forthcoming papal visit 19 to 22 September 2015.
“The symbolic elements of the hand, the heart and the cross together with the colours, indicate mercy and love. The gesture of the hand is associated with rites proper to the Catholic religion, and transmits humanism and brotherhood. The cross indicates the religious character. The colours are those of our flag and the solitary star indicates the visit’s national character ", says the official presentation of the logo on the new official website.
