Friday, 31 July 2015

Mekanissa (Agenzia Fides) – At the beginning of June 2015 work began at last to build a School of Graphic Art in Mekanissa, an outlying district of Addis Ababa. The project called “Print your future: developing graphic art and printing in Ethiopia” aims to provide young people in the capital with new opportunities for highly qualified work in an emerging new sector, graphics and printing. The Salesian news agency ANS says this is the first such school in Ethiopia. The formation of the operators and the site for the Department of Graphic Art and Printing, will be the Salesian School in Mekanissa. The project is an initiative of Italian NGOs Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo (VIS) and Volontariato Internazionale Donna Educazione e Sviluppo (VIDES) with the help of Cooperazione Italiana. The project consists not only of the building and equipment of the Department but also the organisation of formal and informal classes, including among the students, particularly vulnerable young people: workers in the informal sector, street children and young people in general excluded from the formal education cycle.
