AFRICA/EGYPT - The Council of Christian Churches convenes a day of prayer on the anniversary of the 1952 "Revolution"

Cairo (Agenzia fides) - The Council of Christian Churches in Egypt, through a statement of Coptic Orthodox priest Bishoy Elmy, head of the General Secretariat of the Council called on all Egyptians to join the "Day of Prayer for Egypt" convened for 23 July to coincide with the 63rd anniversary of the 1952 revolution, which under the leadership of the military Muhammad Naguib and Gamal Abdel Nasser led to the repeal of the monarchy. This initiative - said the statement sent to Agenzia Fides – highlights the desire to pray for the unity of the Egyptian nation and wants to also express gratitude for the work carried out by the armed forces for the defense and security of the Country. At 6.30pm next Thursday, July 23, representatives of the different Churches and Christian communities will take part in a joint prayer in the Greek Orthodox church of the Archangels, in Cairo.
