Rio De Janeiro (Agenzia Fides) - Latin America has 30% of global water resources, however, because of mismanagement in the distribution or climate change, that already pose a serious threat to agriculture in the entire Country, local authorities forsee difficulties in ensuring drinking water for decades to come. Currently, Brazil is hit by a severe crisis in the water sector. In the Country water and electricity are connected, and two years of poor rains have significantly reduced the supply for millions of people. Since 2014 the city of São Paulo has been living the worst crisis in history because of the prolonged drought that has left the city without water supply sources. In the Brazilian city, about six million people risk being without water. In addition, two thirds of the electricity comes from the banks of the rivers, whose flows have been reduced to alarming levels. This phenomenon highlights the urgent need to adopt measures such as reforestation as well as systems of electricity distribution. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 21/07/2015)
