Belém (Agenzia Fides) - A video documenting the first Youth Mission in the Amazon, organized by the Youth Commission of the Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) last December, was broadcast for the first time, to the young participants in the National Meeting of Youth Movements and New Communities, held in Belém last week.
The video, six minutes long, presents 72 young people selected to go to the Amazon, in the missions organized by the Committees for the Amazon, and by Missionary Action Cooperation within the Church and by the Commission for the Continental Mission of the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB ).
After a period of preparation and training in Manaus, the young people were sent to Parintins, Borba, Coari and Boa Vista and to the indigenous village of Raposa Serra do Sol. The young in the forest, with children and other young people, are engaged in explaining different aspects of our faith: this is the testimony in images of young missionaries, according to the note sent to Fides by the PMS of Brazil. The experience was widely reported in the local media and within the Catholic Church itself, because there are very few groups involved in these areas of difficult access and great need, where the Catholic Church is present through missionaries.
