AFRICA/RWANDA - Expansion of a water system to provide water to about 22,000 people

Thursday, 16 July 2015

Cyeza (Agenzia Fides) - Even in Cyeza there is water! We are talking about a village that is located in the central part of the Country and now sees the realization, with the contribution of the non-profit organization Movement for the Struggle Against World Hunger, of the enlargement of the aqueduct that currently exists. In a 30 cubic meter tank, which collects water from the springs, there are 3 pumps powered by solar panels, which run the pumps only during daylight hours. The project wants to increase the amount of water available by pumping even at night, thanks to electricity which is present in the village. With this intervention water would be distributed twice a day. Among its objectives the promotion of the welfare of the population through integrated interventions in health, hygiene, habitat, environment, education, the reduction of illnesses caused by the use of non-potable water (worms, cholera, dysentery, etc.) and the reduction of wetland areas.
