Wednesday, 15 July 2015

Tegucigalpa (Agenzia Fides) - A new ward for the assistance of children infected with dengue and chikungunya was recently inaugurated at the Children's Hospital of Tegucigalpa. The aim of this new structure, built by the NGO Doctors Without Borders, is to strengthen the response to the care of children who arrive at the hospital with both diseases. According to information sent to Fides, it is adjacent to the pediatric emergency room and will be used as a hall for the evaluation of patients arriving with suspected dengue fever or chikungunya. In the eventual finding of a disease, they will be immediately hospitalized for treatment. Every day there are more than 30 children under one who arrive in the clinic with severe joint pain and high fever. The staff in charge of minors consists of eight doctors, five nurses and ten auxiliaries, in addition to the personnel in charge of coordinating the access of patients in the ward and distribution of materials and drugs in view of a possible increase in cases. The service will be completely free. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 15/07/2015)
