ASIA/LEBANON - The Maronite Patriarch: the storm will pass, and Christians will remain in the Middle East

Monday, 6 July 2015

Beirut (Agenzia Fides) - Christians of the Middle East will remain rooted in their land, which is the land where Jesus was born. Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros Rai expressed this confident hope during the Mass celebrated yesterday in front of the boys and girls of the first Global Forum of Maronite Youth, the meeting of young people, especially the Maronite community around the world who come to Lebanon to take part in a series of meetings, conferences and social and cultural initiatives.
Even on Saturday, July 4, the Primate of the Maronite Church had expressed words of encouragement for the future of Christians in the Middle East during his visit to churches and monasteries in the district of Matn. "There is no fear. The storm will pass", said Cardinal Rai on that occasion, adding that "what is important is to remain rooted in faith and not to give up". On the same day, the Maronite Patriarch also visited the Palestinian refugee camp of Dbayeh, criticizing the inaction of the international community in the face of the tragedy of Palestinian refugees who for three generations have been living in refugee camps scattered in Lebanon, often in inhumane conditions.
