Islamabad (Agenzia Fides) - Maryam Kanwer, president of the "Pakistan Youth Alliance", who works in the building of peace, conflict resolution and social welfare, is under threat. This is denounced by the "Asian Human Rights Commission" (Ahrc), expressing fears after the murder of another activist Sabeen Mahmood. Kanwer has done much to support "Voice of Baloch", a movement of the province of Beluchstan, taking an active part in the movement for the rights of the Baloch.
According to the Commission "several forces intend to halt any movement that upholds the rights of the Baloch in Pakistan. Supporters of the movement are targeted, harassed and threatened. Academics, journalists, defenders of human rights activists are increasingly targeted for speaking out against fundamentalism and militarization of Pakistan".
Maryam Kanwer president of the "Pakistan Youth Alliance" has received threats since she became interested in the organization "Voice of Baloch" and intimidation also came from the terrorist group "Lashkar e Jhangvi". The woman was forced into hiding and left her hometown Karachi. The extremists have launched a campaign against her on social media. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 24/06/2015)
