Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - A Chinese delegation led by Wang Zuo'an, director of the State Administration for Religious Affairs of the Republic of China (SARA), was received on 18 June by Coptic Orthodox Patriarch Tawadros II. This was reported by Coptic sources consulted by Agenzia Fides.
During the meeting, which took place at the Patriarchal See of San Marco in Cairo, Tawadros briefly outlined the historical events of the Coptic Church, its relationships - defined as "good" - with Egyptian society, with the Islamic community and state institutions, and also spoke of the community of families of Coptic immigrants residing in China. The head of the Chinese delegation spoke instead of the plurality of religious communities in China, confirming that the purpose of the trip to Egypt is just to learn more about the North African nation religiously, and find opportunities for dialogue and collaboration with authorities and religious institutions in Egypt.
Mounir Hanna, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Egypt promoted the visit of the Chinese delegation to Egypt. The program of the visit also included meetings with representatives of the Egyptian Ministry for Religious Affairs and with the leaders of the Islamic University of al-Azhar.
