AFRICA/TANZANIA - Bishop of Mpanda to the young: "Go and vote in the October elections"

Friday, 19 June 2015

Dar es Salaam (Agenzia Fides) - "Go and register as voters and know that your vote will make a difference by voting for good leaders; make sure that you use your democratic right by voting on the day of the election", urged His Exc. Mgr. John Gervas Mwasikwabhila Nyaisonga, Bishop of Mpanda, in Tanzania, during the Mass celebrated for the Catholic Youth Conference, which was held from 9 to June 15 in Njombe. The event, organized by the Episcopal Conference of Tanzania was attended by 1,800 young people from around the Country.
Mgr. Nyaisonga also called on the youth to respect the dignity of life, avoid being misused by greedy people for their selfish gain as well as short-cuts in life which normally make them ruin their lives. On the contrary, he urged them to remain firm and capable of making responsible decisions, while establishing a close relation with Christ.
"Corruption, drug addiction, abortion or associating with terrorists groups will not give you solutions to your challenges", said the Bishop, who instead emphasized: "Christ loves you and is ready to help carry your luggage if you are committed to him". The general elections will be held in Tanzania in October. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 19/06/2015)
