Thursday, 11 June 2015

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - America's Cup 2015 begins today, the most important sporting event to be held from June 11 to July 4 in Chile. In this circumstance, various Church organizations and civil society, convened by the "Justice and Peace" Episcopal Commission and the Episcopal Commission for Migration and Tourism of Argentina, are putting an effort into preventing human trafficking in Argentina and Chile. "Say no to trafficking" is the slogan of the initiative of the Task Force, which invites not to become accomplices and to denounce these situations through "toll-free numbers" created especially in the two countries: 134 (Chile) and 145 (Argentina).
The Commission of the Episcopal Conference of Argentina stressed the importance of this commitment and have asked to inform people about the slogans, which are: "This America's Cup, and always, say no to trafficking"; "Red Card to sexual exploitation"; "No to exploitation of labor and organ trafficking".
The note sent to Agenzia Fides said that "in sporting events with large crowds of people, unfortunately the risks of trafficking for sexual and labor exploitation are on the rise, as happened in the World Cup in Germany and in South Africa, where there was an increase in the phenomenon of respectively 30% and 40%".
