AMERICA/MEXICO - The churches of Piedras Negras become centers of aid to people affected by the tornado

Cohauila (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishop of the Diocese of Piedras Negras, which belongs to the city of Acuña, Coahuila (Mexico), His Exc. Mgr. Alonso Gerardo Garza Trevino, after the disaster caused by the tornado that devastated Ciudad Acuña 25 May (see Fides 27/05/2015), has invited the Catholic Church to tackle the emergency. In a statement to priests and faithful of the diocese and the north of Mexico, sent to Fides, "he has asked everyone to offer prayers for the victims" and urged to "provide material aid to those most in need". The Bishop has established all Catholic churches in the Diocese of Piedras Negras to become collection centers and centers of coordination of aid to the homeless.
14 people have died and the number of houses that have reported significant damage or have been completely destroyed increases. There is no water and other basic necessities in the area. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 28/05/2015)
