AFRICA/EGYPT - The Council of Christian Churches celebrate the second anniversary of its founding

Tuesday, 26 May 2015

Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - The second anniversary of the founding of the Council of Christian Churches in Egypt was celebrated at the Cairo headquarters of the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate. On Monday, May 25 all the heads of the Christian churches present in the large North African country were welcomed by Patriarch Tawadros.
The meeting, initially scheduled for February 28, was postponed after pictures of the massacre of 21 Coptic Egyptians killed in Libya by jihadists linked to the Islamic State (IS) were published. The meeting was also attended by Catholic Coptic Patriarch Isaac Ibrahim Sidrak.
The Council of Christian Churches in Egypt was established in February 2013 also to help a common discernment of the facts and phenomena associated with the so-called "Arab Spring" and help the various Christian communities to express a shared position, especially in the areas of policy and social issues.
