AMERICA/MEXICO – When will violence be stopped?

Wednesday, 13 May 2015

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - On Sunday 10 May, the "Desde la Fe" weekly of the Archdiocese of Mexico titled its editorial "Narcoterror" to describe the current situation in which the country lives. The text refers to the clashes which occurred in the states of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacan and Guanajuato last May 1. These 40 clashes with drug traffickers, according to the weekly, caused 15 deaths and 10 people were arrested.
As the same editorial informs, sent to Agenzia Fides, after "the Jalisco operation" of the security forces, in an attempt to capture a leader of a criminal gang, the city was attacked: highway, gas stations, banks, shopping centers, military vehicles, to openly challenge public safety.
Civilians suffer the effects of the negligence of authorities and crime has paralyzed one of the largest cities in the country. "Michoacan was not enough to discover there was corruption in all aspects of life in this area. Now it is Jalisco’s turn" the editorial says. "Citizens can only wonder: what still needs to happen for violence to be stopped?". (CE) (Agenzia Fides 13/05/2015)
