ASIA/INDIA - Resignation of Bishop of Aurangabad and appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 13 May 2015 the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the diocese of Aurangabad (India), by His Exc. Mgr. Edwin Colaço, in accordance with can. 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father appointed Rev. Ambrose Rebello, Chancellor and Vicar General of the same diocese as Bishop of Aurangabad (India).
Rev. Ambrose Rebello was born on February 17, 1949, in Nirmal, in the diocese of Amravati, today Aurangabad. After a vocational experience with the PP. Dominicans, he studied Philosophy and Theology for priesthood at St. Charles Regional Seminary, Nagpur, as a seminarian of Amravati diocese. He was ordained a priest on 22 April 1979 for the new diocese of Aurangabad. Since ordination he has served the following pastoral roles: 1979-1982: Assistant priest of Christ the King Parish, Malighogargaon; 1982-1983: Pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Borsar; 1983-1988: Parish priest of Christ the King Parish, Malighogargaon; 1988-1993: Pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Ragunathnagar; 1994-2008: Pastor of Pasca Parish, Purna; since 2008: Pastor of Karuna Matha Mandir Parish, Vaijapoor. Since 2011 he has been Vicar General of Aurangabad, Director of the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Chancellor and Vice Director of the Education Society of the Diocese of Aurangabad.
