Wednesday, 13 May 2015

Manila (Agenzia Fides) - "The purpose and mission of the 'Luigi Caburlotto School' are love, faith and quality": this is how the nuns of the congregation of the Daughters of St. Joseph tell Fides their educational commitment in the Philippines, on the eve of the beatification of Luigi Caburlotto, pastor and founder of the religious institute. The school is located in the village of Anislag, in the Diocese of Legaspi in a parish of about 30,000 inhabitants, made up largely of refugees, who moved from various places affected by typhoons and the eruption of the Mayon volcano.
Sister Edarlyn Delos Santos, the local superior says: "In 2012, in union with the Church, we reflected and celebrated the Year of Faith. In 2013 we remembered the 20th anniversary of our 'Father Luigi Caburlotto School', a gift for all this population. This year we are committed to living charity in service: in fact the whole school, but in particular about one hundred primary school students, participate, with the sisters, in the project of helping the poor".
Accompanied by teachers and parents, guided by the religious sisters, children are involved in pastoral activity and solidarity with the families and poor children.
This activity involves the whole family of the pupil: "So we remain faithful to our charism: love is our mission, the family is the protagonist of this love", says Sister Edarlyn.
More than 70 children are welcomed every Sunday: "With their parents – she continues - a path of formation is carried out: human dignity, respect, good manners, human and Christian values: love, forgiveness, patience. Gratitude, joy, sharing, friendship are the gifts that enrich these meetings".
The experience of "immersion" in the surrounding reality is very educational and useful for the students: "It is an unforgettable experience of life", she concludes. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 13/05/2015)
