AFRICA/NIGERIA - Kidnapped priest released

Abuja (Agenzia Fides) - Fr. Innocent Umor, the Catholic priest kidnapped in the early hours on May 4 in his parish in Ikanepo, in the diocese of Idah, in Kogi State, in central southern Nigeria (see Fides 07/05/2015) has been released. This was reported to Agenzia Fides by Fr. Patrick Tor Alumuku, Director of the Social Communications Office of the Archdiocese of Abuja, who claims to have heard the news of the liberation of Fr. Humor, by two priests of Idah. "Fr. Humor was released two days after being kidnapped. The exact circumstances of his release are not clear, but it is known that the kidnappers had contacted the local Bishopric. "The kidnapping was however an act of crime and not an act of terrorism.
