AMERICA/DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - The Bishops encourage the President to continue direct contact with people most in need

Barahona (Agenzia Fides) - Some Bishops of the Dominican Republic consider the unannounced visits that President Danilo Medina carries out every weekend very positive, because they have a significant impact on productive sectors and the people most in need. They also noted the humility of President Medina and his style of government marked by simplicity.
These considerations were made on April 25, when Bishops Mgr. Diomedes Espinal de Leon (diocese of Mao-Monte Cristi), Mgr. Ramón Benito de la Rosa y Carpio (Emeritus of Santiago), Mgr. Fausto Ramón Mejía Vallejo (St. Francisco de Macoris), Mgr. Andrés Napoleón Romero Cárdenas (Barahona) and Mgr. Gregorio Nicanor Peña Rodríguez (Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia en Higüey), met for the consecration of the new Bishop of the Diocese of Barahona. The ceremony was attended by government officials and President Medina himself.
The note sent to Fides from a local source, informs that the Bishops stressed the impact of these meetings, in particular in rural areas, where the President stops to listen to the concerns and needs of farmers and small business owners looking for immediate solutions to their problems. The Bishops believe that President Medina’s direct contact with these people must continue because it really helps the poor. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 04/05/2015)
