Cochabamba (Agenzia Fides) - The Maryknoll Mission Center in Cochabamba (Bolivia) has launched linguistic missionary formation courses and cultural orientation, which provide for the teaching of Spanish, Quechua and Aymara, languages spoken in the area of the Andes.
The course is intended primarily for missionaries from different continents who come to work in the Latin American communities. The course offers the opportunity of a total immersion, not only in language but also in Latin American and Bolivian culture.
According to the note sent to Fides, the teaching of Quechua language is essential. "The program provides a communicative methodology so that students acquire the ability to interact and talk in Quechua right from the beginning". The didactic proposal in the cultural context, includes knowledge of the values and customs of the Quechua culture.
In addition to language courses, the Maryknoll Mission Center offers formation missionary programs with a socio-cultural approach to encourage participants to take on their role as protagonists of the mission.
In Bolivia, Quechua is spoken by more than 2 million people. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 30/04/2015)
