Chihuahua (Agenzia Fides) - To get a smile out of an indigenous child with a simple gift or sweets is the objective of Pan y Peces, that has been organizing the event called 'A smile for Tarahumara street children' for about nine years. This ethnic group, between 50,000 and 70,000 people, lives in the present territory of Chihuahua. Many of them live in natural shelters such as caves in the mountains or in small huts made of wood or stone. In a statement sent to Agenzia Fides, the coordinator of the event pointed out that Pan y Peces is a Non-profit association dedicated to people with social difficulties. Currently it assists indigenous children who live in the settlements of the Dale colony.
The initiative, celebrated recently, saw the participation of all the citizenry in the collection of toys, sweets, clothes, shoes that were distributed during the first Indigenous Children's Day organized in Dale. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 30/04/2015)
