Friday, 24 April 2015

Havana (Agenzia Fides) - The Secular Franciscan Order in Cuba counts 318 perpetually professed (men and women, single and married, lay people, deacons, priests and a Bishop) who are committed to living the Gospel according to the charism of St. Francis of Assisi in 15 fraternities on the island.
From April 16 to 19 they celebrated their National Chapter in Havana, to evaluate the last three years of work and identify the challenges for the future.
According to information sent to Fides, in a few years the number of Fraternities in Cuba has increased from 6 to the current 15, and their members are actively engaged mainly in various pastoral fields: catechesis, liturgy, assistance to the poor ... Their work is considered very valuable and important.
The Chapter was presided by Ricardo Herrera, head of the National Fraternity of Costa Rica, as a delegate of the Minister General, Tibor Kauser and the Assistant General Father Jose Antonio Cruz Duarte, OFM. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 24/04/2015)
