ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of Bishop of Bagdogra

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On April 7, 2015, the Holy Father appointed Fr. Vincent Aind, of the clergy of Jalpaiguri, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Morning Star Regional Seminary as Bishop of the Diocese of Bagdogra, India.
The newly-appointed Bishop was born on January 30, 1955 in Kalchini, West Bengal, Diocese of Jalpaiguri. He studied Philosophy at the Morning Star Regional Seminary in Barrackpore, Calcutta, and Theology at St. Joseph's Seminary in Mangalore. He earned a Masters of Arts in English Literature at the North Bengal University in Calcutta, a Bachelor in Economics at St. Joseph's College, Darjeeling, a Licentiate in Philosophy at Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth in Pune, and a Doctorate in Philosophy at the Gregoriana Pontifical University, Rome. He was ordained a priest on April 30, 1984 for the Diocese of Jalpaiguri.
Since his ordination he has served in the following pastoral and academic roles: 1984-1985: Assistant priest of Christ the King Parish, Damanpur, Diocese of Jalpaiguri; 1985-1987: Studies for a Doctorate in Philosophy at the Gregoriana Pontifical University in Rome; since 1987: Professor of Philosophy at the Morning Star Regional Seminary, Barrackpore; 1995-2000: Spiritual Director at the Morning Star Regional Seminary; 2001-2004: Rector of the Morning Star Regional Seminary; 2004-2007: pastor of St. Lucy's Parish - Jyoti Ashram, Chalsa, Diocese of Jalpaiguri; since 2007: Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Morning Star Regional Seminary, Principal of the Morning Star College.
Since 2007 he has also been Diocesan Consultant and Member of the Council for Economic Affairs of the Diocese of Jalpaiguri and Regional Secretary of the Commission for the clergy, religious and seminars of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Bengal. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 08/04/2015)
