AFRICA/MALAWI - The hope of Easter in the poorest Country in the world

Wednesday, 1 April 2015

Lilongwe (Agenzia Fides) - "Year after year we cling to Easter as a lifeline especially for young people, the youth of today, to whom we must be able to give a ray of hope" writes from Malawi Fr. Piergiorgio Gamba, Monfortan missionary.
"It is a very difficult year for Malawi and its people. First the flood, and then a sudden drought that is drying up what was to be the crop able to produce enough food for a year", says the missionary.
"According to preliminary statistics there will be less than 30% of the food needed. This is the concern of a nation that is considered the poorest Country in the world. A fact that brings much sadness to the 15 million people who ask themselves when their lives will change".
"Today we still need Easter" continues Fr. Gamba. "Many families have been unable to rebuild their hut after the floods and are still living as refugees in the camps".
But Fr. Gamba does not give up and has just opened a new youth center to instill new life in young people. "The mission is committed to sowing hope. Our most beautiful wish is to bring joy that fills our lives", concludes the missionary. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 01/04/2015)
