Wednesday, 25 March 2015

Tripoli (Agenzia Fides) - The Islamic State has claimed two attacks carried out respectively in a suburb of Benghazi, capital of Cyrenaica, and in Misurata in Tripolitania. In the first case a suicide bomber is of Tunisian nationality, detonated a car bomb in the district of Leithi, killing at least seven people. The peculiarity of the claim spread through the internet is that in addition to the photo of the alleged bomber, there was also a picture of the effects of the explosion taken from above.
On March 23 a car bomb exploded without causing casualties near the security offices in Misurata. Again the attack was claimed by the Islamic State that is fighting against the militias of Misurata, the most important of the military forces of Libyan Dawn, the coalition that supports the government in Tripoli, close to the Muslim Brotherhood, which is in contrast with that of Tobruk, recognized by the international community.
The Islamic State took control of Sirte, Gaddafi's hometown, where there are ongoing battles with the militias of Misurata. Earlier today, a car bomb driven by a suicide attacker, exploded against the positions of the militias of Libyan Dawn outside Sirte, killing at least five militants. (L.M.)
