Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) – Today the Brazilian National Conference of Catholic Bishops (CNBB) opens the Fraternity Campaign 2015. As customary, on Ash Wednesday, at the head offices in Brasilia (DF), Bishop Leonardo Ulrich Steiner, auxiliary of Brasilia and CNBB Secretary general will preside the opening ceremony. The event is broadcast live by all the country’s Christian radio stations: Rede Vida, Nazaré, Aparecida, Evangelizar, Horizonte, Século 21 and Canção Nova.
With passing years this Lenten Campaign has acquired increasing social importance, and the ceremony is attended by representatives of government and civil society including the minister of Agricultural Development; the president of the federal council of the Order of Brazilian Lawyers (OAB); and the executive secretary of the National Council of Christian Churches (Conic).
The ceremony will also include the reading of a special message from Pope Francis for the Fraternity Campaign 2015. With the theme "Brotherhood: Church and society" and the slogan "I came to serve" (Mk 10, 45), the Campaign intends to emphasise the calling and mission of individual Christians and faith communities, marked by dialogue and cooperation between Church and society indicated by the Second Vatican Council.
