AMERICA/BRAZIL - Missionary organizations at work in 2015: Permanent formation and suburbs

Friday, 6 February 2015

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - In 2014 seventeen missionary formation initiatives were carried out: in particular, two courses for foreign missionaries (90 days each); two missionary formation courses for Brazilian men and women sent to other mission countries or regions; a course in missiology; and other courses. In total 574 people attended.
This is the outcome of the Mission Cultural Center (JCC), which held its annual general assembly on February 2. It was attended by representatives of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), the National Missionary Council (Comina), the Conference of Religious of Brazil (CRB), the National Council for Secular Institutes (CNIS), National Council of Laity of Brazil (CNLB ) and the Indigenous Missionary Council (CIMI).
As the note sent to Fides of the PMS of Brazil reports, the courses are intense, with conferences, debates, seminars; liturgical celebrations, testimonies and even moments of leisure. Coexistence among people of different cultures always offers a rich and unique exchange.
The program for 2015 was also discussed during the assembly: permanent formation in the field of mission and the presence in the suburbs are some of the themes to be developed along with the other pastoral realities. The Mission Cultural Center (JCC) in fact seeks to coordinate the work in order to join forces and tackle with enthusiasm the commitment for the missions and the defense of human rights in the communities assisted.
