Friday, 16 January 2015

Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - On 13 and 14 January, the periodic meeting of Catholic Bishops in Egypt took place in the district of Maadi. The meeting was held under the presidency of the Coptic Catholic Patriarch Ibrahim Isaac Sidrak, and also attended by Greek-Melkite Patriarch Gregoire III, as vice-president of the ecclesial organization. The focus of the work was the necessary coordination among the various Catholic communities in the sharing of common apostolic mission, and particular attention was paid to the initiatives of the Secretariat of Christian schools, which continue to play a valuable role and universally appreciated in the Egyptian society.
The Catholic Bishops in Egypt also discussed the initiatives to celebrate and live the Year dedicated to Consecrated Life, and everybody stressed the improvement of ecumenical relations with the Coptic Orthodox Church. "Pope Tawadros - confirms to Agenzia Fides Anba Antonios Aziz Mina, Coptic Catholic Bishop of Guizeh – says there is still some resistance in certain church environments, even on delicate ecumenical questions and this requires time and patience before an agreement is found".
