Juba (Agenzia Fides) - During a recent visit to the region of South Sudan, still in conflict, His Exc. Mgr. Daniel Adwok, Auxiliary Bishop of Khartoum, stressed the importance of education and hospitality towards refugees that live in the neighboring district of Maban (Upper Nile). According to information sent to Agenzia Fides by the General Curia of the Jesuits, Mgr. Adwok spent some days with government officials, parish representatives and refugees, welcomed with enthusiasm.
"Today we are here, in this land, in exile, but the population of Maban remembers that not long ago it was forced to flee to the north or to Ethiopia, in search of a safer place. Therefore true hospitality is very important", said the Bishop to a group of refugees and parish representatives. Before the separation from Sudan, the population of Maban was welcomed elsewhere. The roles have reversed, now Maban hosts more than 130,000 refugees from the Blue Nile State in Sudan. Mgr. Adwok, who visited various projects of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), stressed the importance of meeting the needs of both refugees and the communities that host them.
