Saturday, 13 December 2014

Cúcuta (Agenzia Fides) – Faced with the growing number of patients with dengue fever, the Bishop of the Diocese of Cúcuta (Colombia), Mgr. Julio Cesar Vidal Ortiz, highlighted the situation in this part of the country and asked the municipal and regional health workers to speed up information campaigns in the communities.
In a press release sent to Fides, the Bishop said that if appropriate measures are not taken "this could trigger a social crisis, with serious consequences for the health of the inhabitants".
Mgr. Vidal Ortiz called on the whole diocese to be jointly responsible for this emergency situation: signaling the presence of the virus and to follow the doctors’ advice with regards to prevention.
Colombia is one of the Latin American countries where the disease has spread much in the last few months, there are about 4500 cases of Dengue fever (see Fides 29/10/2014). (CE) (Agenzia Fides 13/12/2014)
