Friday, 12 December 2014

Erbil (Agenzia Fides) - Leaders and activists of local political parties inspired by Christians joined the protest march held on Thursday, December 11 on the streets of Erbil, to the seat of the Government of the autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan, to protest against the criteria used for the choice of the Electoral Commission.
The representatives of all parties and minority groups, including those born on the initiative of Christians, have signed a memorandum sent to the Presidency of Parliament and also to the government, in which they denounce the total absence of delegates within the body responsible to draft regulations for the parliamentary elections and the referendum, and criticize the criteria used in the choice of its members. The protest - reports ankawa.com – was also attended by left parties.
As reported by local sources, consulted by Agenzia Fides, "full support" to the request of the Christian MPs to appoint members in the Electoral Commission has also been expressed by Massoud Barzani, President of the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 12/12/2014)
