Thursday, 4 December 2014

Karachi (Agenzia Fides) – “May Advent, a time of preparation for Christmas, help you to open your hearts to the gift of the Holy Spirit, asking Him to deepen your faith, confirm your hope in God’s promises, and help you be more generous in your love for God and for neighbour especially the poor, the marginalised and the sick”: this was part of an address by Archbishop Joseph Coutts of Karachi, at a meeting organised at Karachi Catechesis Centre, attended by pupils of various Catholic schools and members of the faithful from nine different parishes. A report to Fides, said the meeting was one of biblical reflection and prayer. Archbishop Coutts urged the faithful to “nurture during Advent a spirit of prayer in hearts, homes and in families”.
Another speaker was Archbishop Evarist Pinto, emeritus of Karachi, who praised the activity of the Centre for Catechesis, as well as enthusiastic participation on the part of so many faithful. Archbishop Pinto told those present to “concentrate on preparing for the coming of Jesus Christ, so that the heart of every Pakistani Christian will be ready to receive the gift of God’s love, even in times of difficulty”. The Archbishop underlined the importance of vigilance, repentance and conversion. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 4/12/2014)
