Monday, 17 November 2014

Chocó (Agenzia Fides) - The Colombian government has suspended peace talks with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), after an army general was taken captive, in the west of the country. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos informed that negotiations are suspended until the circumstances of the abduction of General Rubén Alzate, attributed to the guerrillas of the FARC are clarified.
According to information sent to Agenzia Fides, the incident occurred yesterday, when the General of the "Fuerza de Tarea Conjunta Titán" was surveying a rural energy project in Quibdó (Chocó). It is the first time in a half-century of fighting that the guerrillas have taken an army general captive. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 17/11/2014)
