Rome (Agenzia Fides) - "We belong to a world that is changing and that, in some respects is disturbing, because the jihad awakening is a threat to peace among men and peace among religions. However, one cannot live on an island, because we live in solidarity with the rest of the world". This was stated by His Exc. Mgr. Benjamin Ndiaye, Bishop of Kaolack and President of the Inter-territorial Catholic Bishops' Conference of Senegal, Mauritania, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, in Rome for the ad limina visit.
"In Senegal, we have a good tradition of peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims", said Mgr. Ndiaye. "This is due to the culture and wisdom of its people. "It is therefore necessary to preserve this climate of tolerance for all to profess and practice their faith" said Mgr. Ndiaye.
On November 10, he met with the Bishops of Senegal, Mauritania, Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau and Pope Francis at the Vatican, and highlighted: "the contact with other religions, is a fact which is particularly evident in some of your dioceses". He then called for "constructive dialogue with Muslims, dialogue which is necessary to live peacefully with others". (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 13/11/2014)
