AFRICA/EGYPT - The government expels Islamist militants from educational institutions

Minya (Agenzia Fides) – On Tuesday, November 11, the Egyptian Minister of Education, Mahmoud Abo El-Nasr paid a visit to the city of Minya in Upper Egypt, in order to see that the management functions in local administrative bodies regarding public education are not occupied by extremist elements linked to Islamist groups. This is revealed by local sources consulted by Agenzia Fides.
During the period of government Morsi, expression of the Muslim Brotherhood - refer to Agenzia Fides sources in the local Catholic Church - Islamist groups paid special care to impose its monopoly on positions of responsibility in the field of public education, which they regarded as a valuable tool to spread their ideological belief among the younger generation. Now the breakthrough made by Egypt - marked by the arrest of President Morsi and the election of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi - is also reflected in the capillary process of cleansing of extremist elements in educational institutions.
