AMERICA/BOLIVIA - Education, communication and drug trafficking: the Bishops prepare three pastoral Letters

Friday, 7 November 2014

Cochabamba (Agenzia Fides) - With a Mass and greetings from Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro, Apostolic Nuncio to Bolivia, the Assembly of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Bolivia (CEB) opened yesterday, November 6. The meeting is being held in Cochabamba until 11 November.
"In the dioceses, evangelization is experiencing a moment of precious development with the preparation of the forthcoming Eucharistic Congress - said the Apostolic Nuncio - an event that Pope Paul VI, Blessed recently, considered a call that opens a huge space to the dynamics of community action; even Pope Francis invites to experience the mystery of the Eucharist, in order to obtain new apostolic and missionary zeal". The Archbishop went on to say that "the Holy Father expressly referred to the missionary impulse, in the prayer recently signed personally, to accompany the preparation of the International Congress CAM 5-COMLA 10, to be held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in 2018".
The Archbishop of Cochabamba, His Exc. Mgr. Oscar Omar Aparicio Céspedes, the new President of the CEB, presented the main challenges that lie ahead for the country: persistent poverty, the threat of drug trafficking, the renewal of the legal system, the health situation, public education and citizen safety. "In the face of these enormous tasks, one has to rely on sustainable structural proposals", he said in his speech.
On their agenda these days the Bishops of Bolivia, according to the note sent to Agenzia Fides, have prepared three pastoral Letters on as many topics of national relevance and interest to the Church: Formation (Education), communication and drug trafficking. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 07/11/2014)
